What is Fuzzy Search?

Fuzzy Search, also known as approximate search, is a technical term that refers to the process of finding strings. It approximately matches a given string based on a defined search algorithm.

Fuzzy search finds matches in case of typos, misspellings, or slight variations in the search queries. Semantic search goes beyond that. It only leverages simple text matching, but it also understands the intent and contextual meaning behind search queries. Fuzzy search focuses on text similarity and handling variations, while semantic search aims to understand the meaning and context of the query.

The former employs methods like editing distance calculations, phonetic algorithms, N-gram matching, and wildcard expansion.
