To enable smart filter hiding, you'll need to adjust two settings in your filter tree display options. Both live in the same place, and it's a quick one-time change that applies across all your filter trees automatically.

Before you start: this only works for filter options where Option Values is set to Manual. If your filter options use automatic value population, the hiding behavior won’t take effect.
