Recap: Shopify Community September 2022 Meetup In Hanoi, Vietnam

After 2 years of interruption due to the global pandemic, Shopify Meetup has been back to Vietnam. As a warm-up for Shopify Unite event series, Shopify Partners and App Developers in South East Asia had a community meetup in Hanoi, Vietnam on September 8th, 2022. The main theme of this year was how Shopify app and theme providers build, nurture and develop partnerships in Shopify Partner Ecosystem.

It was a great honor for Boost Commerce to co-host the event with PageFly and Secomapp. During the two days of the Shopify Community Meetup, we shared a lot of interesting activities, inspiring lessons, and even more partnership opportunities to prepare for the upcoming BFCM season.

One day before the main event on September 7th, we had the opportunity to stop by the workplaces of excellent Shopify Partners and App Developers in Hanoi.

Meetup Day With Precious Talks

Autumn is just around the corner in Hanoi these days. Instead of the scorching heat of the summer, the weather was comfortable. Because of the heavy rain in the morning, we decided to kick-start the event later than scheduled to make sure everyone had arrived and to have more time for small chit-chat. It was such a long time since Shopify team in Vietnam and South East Asia met each other in person!

After the welcoming speech from the organizers, the stage was left to Wilson Ho - Technical Integration Partnerships of Shopify with a presentation about Why Shopify and DTC is the trend now.

Direct-to-customer is gaining popularity thanks to advancements in technology. To harness and make profits from this trend, Shopify is a one-stop shop for all needs. The leading multi-channel commerce platform offers:

  • The personalized shopping experience for online customers
  • Ease of use for merchants to build their brand.

Next on the stage was a collab between Lucy Nguyen - CMO of Secomapp and Tony Bui - Growth Affiliate Manager / Co-founder of PageFly on a sharing session about How to measure the performance from co-marketing activities. Both Secomapp and PageFly are very successful app developers with more than 5 years of experience.

The two leaders pointed out some common mistakes in setting up tracking tools, goals and suggested a wide variety of partnership activities for each partner segment. Segmentation is the first step to having effective and measurable co-marketing activities.

Continuing with the partnership theme, Tri Nguyen - Co-founder of Boost Commerce, the company behind the Product Filter & Search app, got on the stage and shared about How to promote a partner program - Lessons learned from Boost.

After that, the spotlight was on Xavier Lee - Co-founder of Jumpstart Commerce, a highly rated Shopify Plus partner in Asia. He explained the Criteria to choose a trusted Shopify partner for the merchant's solution from a Shopify agency's side.

Although this was a sharing from an agency's perspective, it is of great help to individual merchants when it comes to choosing a third-party app solution. Some criteria Xavier mentioned were:

  • Performance: scalability and speed
  • Features: up-to-date and meet merchants' needs
  • Support: good response time with personalized solutions.

Then, we welcomed Karishma Singh with the presentation about How Partnership between apps helps in scaling mutually - Strategies & Co Marketing Activities that Wiser follows. Karishma is Merchant Success Manager of Wiser - an AI-powered product recommendation app with 3,000+ users.

Like other teams, Wiser segments their partners to have straight-to-the-point collaboration activities. Their incentive policies are diverse with both monetary and non-monetary terms.

Later, the founder of RoarTheme - Peter Dinh - joined us on the stage and shared the Founder’s story- RoarTheme Shopify Theme Partner.

To get approved on Shopify Theme Store, RoarTheme had to submit several times due to the strict requirements and the Online Store 2.0 updates. Still, Peter and his team have made it and become the first Asian team to get approved on the Theme Store. Congrats Peter and RoarTheme ️🎉️🎉.

To finalize the main event, Esther Soo - Partnership Manager from Dotdigital, a cross-channel marketing automation platform, presented us with a topic about Transforming your customer data and insights into exceptional customer experiences.

In her presentation, Esther showed us 4 stages of customer retention from capturing valuable data to keeping the journey going, then personalizing content, and finally amplifying the reach.

The Q&A Panel Discussion came next with some follow-up questions from the participants and more interesting answers and sharings from our dear presenters.

A Memorable Lunch With Vietnamese Specialties

The Q&A session ended at noon so all the guests had lunch together at PageFly's office. We had many Vietnamese specialty dishes such as Vietnamese summer rolls, bánh tôm (crispy batter-fried shrimp), and bánh chưng (a traditional dish made with glutinous rice, mung beans, and pork).
